Effect of Diphenylhydantoin on Ventricular Premature Beat

Abstract
The results of oral diphenylhydantoin (Dilantin¢ç) therapy in 46 patients with ventricular premature beat were as follows:
Diphenylhydantoin was effective in 95.7% of cases end it was accomplished in a period of average 4(1?13) days with average daily dose of 293(200?400)mg. Maintenance dose of diphenylhydantoin necessary to prevent ventricular premature beat was 257(200?400)mg daily, however recurred in 11. 5% of cases during maintenance therapy. After discontinuation of Dilantin, ventricularpremature beat recurred, in 15.7% of cases over the period of average 3 months of duration. Side effects were gingival swelling in 6.5% and skin rash in 2.2% of cases and these findings were disappeared after discontinuation of medication.
